Our company is now certified: SDG 12.3.1.a- Food Loss Index

It is with great pride that we announce that our founder and General Manager, Mrs Valerie Zakka, has successfully passed the final test associated to the course "SDG Sub-indicator 12.3.1.a – Food Loss Index", delivered by The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (UN FAO). With this new achiement and through the certification, she is now qualified to support countries in their data collection, analysis, reporting of SDG Sub-Indicator 12.3.1a- Food Loss Index.

The FAO estimates that around 14% of global food is lost after harvest and before reaching the retail level, representing about 1.25 billion tonnes. A separate 19% of food is wasted at retail and consumer levels, for a total of over 30% yearly. Food Loss & Waste undermine the sustainability of our food systems and planet. When food is lost or wasted, all the resources that were used to produce this food –including water, land, energy, labour and capital - go to waste.

The great news is: prevention is the best solution!

Food Loss & Waste reduction is one of Valerie's main areas of focus, through her work in the agri-food industry, where a huge impact can be made at the Post-harvest level and beyond. Through her public and private workshops, industry talks and consultancy, she is always working on creating awareness and finding innovative solutions to prevent and reduce Food Loss & Waste through awareness trainings, process optimization, technology and automation.

Reducing food loss in your organization is also a great source of savings, efficiency and opportunities for revenue creation. To learn how, sign up for our next Food Loss & Production Costs Reduction Workshop, organized in collaboration with The Industrial Kingdom Consulting Services.
